Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates have both lent a helping hand to kids by funding a non-profit seeking to help schools secure higher speed Internet connections.

EducationSuperHighway announced a significant funding round of $9 million (€6.64 million), which will be used to help schools get speedy Internet connections. Most of the money came from Startup: Education, an NGO led by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, and the Gates Foundation, famous charitable group led by Bill and Melinda Gates, TechCrunch reports.

This is the second participation of Zuckerberg’s foundation to such a cause, after shelling out money in a $4 million (€2.95 million) round that went to Panorama Education.

EducationSuperHighway’s CEO, Evan Marwell said that the issue of slow Internet in schools was similar to how road planners dealt with traffic. “If you had a highway with only one lane, it wouldn’t work as well as one with five lanes. Over 40 million students are being left behind without the Internet access and WiFi they need to take full advantage of digital learning,” he said in an interview.
